Flipping through old photos, and missing my daddies.

When we were in Portland, we got to stay with the wonderful Jon Knox. He is a super talented toy designer, illustrator, and artist. We did a little impromptu photo-shoot with some of his toys. If you think they look great in photographs, they are even more amazing in person. I’m serious. Go buy all of his stuff!

We had an amazing trip to Portland. It had the body of a big city with the heart of a small town. The people were charming, the food was delicious, and the coffee was amazing!
Our lovely hosts, Jon Knox and Tim Pritchard, were the best. We got to experience the best of Portland in wonderful company. Everything that we did from our road-trip to Seattle, to attending the opening at Newspace, to driving across town at midnight hunting for cupcakes was wondeful. Thank you, boys, for making our trip so special—we will remember it always!
I wish I could bottle up how I felt in Portland and feel it all the time now that I’m home. Being in a new space often makes me think about a million different things, but always about how much differently I’d like to live my life. I knew that when I returned to Toronto, I would be bombarded by life again: emails, work, photo-shoots, meetings, shows, grant applications, rejections. It was nice not to think about those things for a while, mostly because it gave me the chance to pay attention to everything else in the world. Portland reminded me that I’ve been getting a lot of things wrong. I don’t know how else to say it. And now I feel like I’m rambling.
Things have never been perfect, but for a few breezy days in September where mountainous trees followed me wherever I went, in the company of the person I cared most about, two new friends who I will now have in my life, and the most adorable dog in the world, it came pretty close.
It was the perfect way to end the summer.
we miss you boys soo much! wish we were still there. x
We were visited by the amazing Steven Beckly last week and he shot me in my bedroom with some of my resins yesterday. Here’s a behind the scenes shot. <3 u Steven (and Dylan!)!

Religious Practice, 2010
So, after a whole day of bed rest, I finally caught up on enough sleep to share some news. I had a fantastic weekend at TOAE 2010! Despite the insane thunderstorm that made setting up on Friday a nightmare, the weekend went better than I ever expected. Met some amazing people, sold a lot of artwork(!), and even won Honourable Mention! CRAZY. The award winners will be showcased in the Best of TOAE 2010 Exhibition at FCP Gallery in January 2011. A list of the award winners.
Photographic Center Northwest sent me an email yesterday informing me that my work will be included in Present Tense: 15th Annual Photographic Competition Exhibition, juried by Denise Wolff from Aperture Foundation. I probably read that email 50 times before I allowed myself to get excited. I volunteered at the Portfolio Reviews during CONTACT, and Denise Wolff was one of the reviewers. I remember nervously saying “hello” to her before walking into a wall. It’s incredibly humbling to know that she has seen my work and selected it to be a part of this show. Present Tense will run from August 6 - September 17. A list of exhibiting artists.
I’m so excited to be showing more and more in the US. If you haven’t checked out the 6th Annual Juried Exhibition at Newspace Center for Photography, the show runs until August 1. I will actually be in Portland in September for the opening reception of The Curve: Center’s Award Recipients Exhibition (also hosted by Newspace). The amazingly generous and wonderfully talented Jon Knox is letting Dylan and I stay with him. Can’t wait for September!
