This time a year ago, we were in Portland with Jon, Tim, and their adorable pup, Robbie.

We had an amazing trip to Portland. It had the body of a big city with the heart of a small town. The people were charming, the food was delicious, and the coffee was amazing!

Our lovely hosts, Jon Knox and Tim Pritchard, were the best. We got to experience the best of Portland in wonderful company. Everything that we did from our road-trip to Seattle, to attending the opening at Newspace, to driving across town at midnight hunting for cupcakes was wondeful. Thank you, boys, for making our trip so special—we will remember it always!

I wish I could bottle up how I felt in Portland and feel it all the time now that I’m home. Being in a new space often makes me think about a million different things, but always about how much differently I’d like to live my life. I knew that when I returned to Toronto, I would be bombarded by life again: emails, work, photo-shoots, meetings, shows, grant applications, rejections. It was nice not to think about those things for a while, mostly because it gave me the chance to pay attention to everything else in the world. Portland reminded me that I’ve been getting a lot of things wrong. I don’t know how else to say it. And now I feel like I’m rambling.

Things have never been perfect, but for a few breezy days in September where mountainous trees followed me wherever I went, in the company of the person I cared most about, two new friends who I will now have in my life, and the most adorable dog in the world, it came pretty close.

It was the perfect way to end the summer.
